Crows and Mythology

Crows feature strongly in ancient mythology throughout the world and are often considered to be portents of death. Throughout history they were commonly thought to circle above scenes of death, such as battlefields. Crows are often considered symbolic of the spiritual aspect of death and the transition to the afterlife.

In Japanese mythology, Yatagarasu (Jungle Crow) represents divine intervention in human affairs. The Japanese Football Association uses the symbol of Yatagarasu in its current emblem.
