Giraffes Galore

Giraffes are the tallest terrestial animals currently inhabiting the earth and is found in many parts of Africa. Images of giraffes grazing the African savannahs come to mind when thinking of these large animals.

Giraffes are a favourite for both photographers and artists alike. Perhaps it's their appearance which can at times appear graceful and elegant, and at other times appear gangly and awkward.

Giraffes are a favourite for children (and adults) everywhere. Their distinctive looks make them a perfect candidate for the creation of cute illustrations and cartoons. Who could resist these cute giraffes below?

The Beautiful Elk

The elk, which is lso known as wapiti, is the largest species of deer. Elk are native to North America and eastern Asia but have been successfully introduced to a number of other areas.

Sumatran Tiger by DigitalDreambuilder at Zazzle

Endangered Sumatra Tiger

A Sumatran Tiger at rest in the grass. The tiger's fur is brown with black stripes, with patches of white on the forehead, ears, eyes and mane.

The Sumatra tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) is a subspecies of tiger whose habitats are lowland and mountainous rain forests on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, a large island in western Indonesia. According to the Tiger Information Centre and the World Wildlife Fund there are fewer than 500 tigers remaining in the wild, living in mostly unprotected game reserves and national parks. The Sumatra Tiger is classified by the IUCN as critically endangered.

Deforestation resulting from the production of palm oil is a major threat to the Sumatran Tiger. The reserves also do not provide safety, as many tigers are killed by poachers each year despite conservation efforts.

The tiger in this photograph is a resident of Dublin Zoo, Pheonix Park, Dublin, Ireland.
