Bighorn Sheep

Bighorn sheep is a species of sheep from North America. It would be no surprise that they were named after their large horns, which can weigh up to 30 pounds (or 14 kilograms for those who use the metric system). The sheep first crossed over the land bridge from Siberia to the North American continent.

Bighorn sheep were known to be in Canada, United States and Mexico in very large numbers, but by 1900 the numbers had dwindled significantly to several thousand. The Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep is the provincial mammal for Alberta and the state animal of Colorado.
